Behind the twist: on set with Twister Fries

What does it take to make a Twister Fry look irresistible on screen? Quite a lot of fries, as it turns out.

In summer 2026, the Folk team headed to a studio in Manchester with our production partner to create two new TV commercials for Lamb Weston Twister Fries.

The campaign was designed to capture everything that makes Twister Fries so distinctive. Their shape, their energy and that little sense of joy they bring to the plate. Food shoots come with their own particular rhythm. Everything needs to be cooked, styled and filmed at exactly the right moment. Fries wait for no one.

There was plenty of arranging, adjusting and rebuilding. Then, when everything was ready, the team had a brief window to capture the food at its freshest and most delicious.

Part studio shoot, part digital craft

The finished commercials combine live-action filming with 3D production. This gave us the best of both worlds: real food, photographed with all its texture and appetite appeal, paired with movement and visual energy that could only be achieved through digital craft.

Planning that combination started well before shoot day. The live-action elements had to be created with the final 3D sequences already in mind, so camera angles, lighting, timing and movement all needed to work together. Every practical decision on set had a knock-on effect in post-production.

The people behind the plates

Shoots like this depend on everyone doing their part, often at exactly the same time. Agency, client, production, food styling, kitchen crew, camera team and 3D artists all contributed to what finally appeared on screen.

It was a busy few days, powered by teamwork, precision and more fries than anyone was brave enough to count. The result was a campaign full of movement, flavour and unmistakable Twister energy.

Because making it look effortless takes a lot of work behind the scenes. And occasionally, a very large fryer.
